Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

There was a man by the name of Jairus who came to Jesus for help. He was a ruler in a Jewish
synagogue.

Falling down at the feet of Jesus, he besought the Lord to come to his house. His only daughter, about twelve years old, was dying.

While he was still speaking, Somebody from the ruler of the Synagogue’s house came to tell him that his daughter had died. “Trouble not the Master,” he was told.

But when Jesus heard the sad news, he encouraged him with these words: “Fear not, only believe, and she shall be made well.”

There was much sorrow and weeping when Jesus arrived at the house. He allowed only Peter, James, and John, along with the child’s father and mother, to go in.

When Jesus told the ones Who were gathered outside of the house not to weep because she was only sleeping, they scornfully laughed at him. They knew that she was dead.

Taking her by the hand, he called out, “Maid, arise.” Her Spirit came back into her again, and she rose up immediately, to the astonishment of her Parents.

“Only believe, only believe; All things are possible, Only believe.”
