Moyer dominates Lady Bucks in 3-0 Muncy victory
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL, PA- Nolah Moyer is a once in lifetime pitcher and luckily for Muncy they happen to have her on their side. Moyer, who’s heading to St. Bonaventure next season to pitch at the Division I level, would once again silence the Bucktail bats, holding them to just four hits and striking out 12 Lady Bucks. Muncy would take control of the Mid Penn Conference following their 3-0 Thursday road victory.
Moyer dominated early by striking out both Lola English and Haley Burrows before getting Mak Wagner to ground out to end the first inning. Bucktail, with Wagner in the circle would hold their own against Muncy throughout.
The bottom of the second inning would see Bucktail’s Eva Sockman figure out Moyer’s pitching. The Bucktail freshman would deliver a shot down the right field line to give Bucktail their first hit. The double would be her first of two doubles on the day. Sockman would finish by going 3 for 3 off Nolah Moyer, something that hasn’t happened all season.
Makenna Stone would advance Sockman to third base on a sacrifice bunt, but Moyer would strike out the next two Bucktail hitters.
Following two costly outfield errors by Bucktail, Muncy would score the game’s first runs. Chevy Bauman would score the game’s first run when Moyer’s fly ball was dropped in the Bucktail outfield. Muncy would plate another run on another dropped ball by the Bucktail outfield to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Lady Indians.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth it would be Sockman again delivering for Bucktail with a single, but Muncy would get the next batter and once again escape with no damage done.
Muncy would add an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning to hold the 3-0 lead. Moyer would then strike out the side in the fifth inning.
Bucktail would threaten again in the third following a single from Lola English. English would steal second base and in an attempt to steal third base would be caught in a rundown. Haley Burrows would then walk but would be left stranded.
Bucktail mounted one last effort in the game’s final at bat. Eva Sockman continued her hot streak with a double, but courtesy runner Lily Francis would be gunned down by Muncy catcher Taylor Shannon, for her second put out of the game. Moyer would get Stone to ground out to first before striking out Kendall Wagner to end the game.
Sockman led Bucktail with her three hits. Lola English added a single. Haley Burrows reached base with a walk.
Muncy, now 14-1, can lock up an outright Mid Penn Conference championship by defeating Montgomery on May 10.
Bucktail dropped to 10-3 and saw their 9-game winning streak come to an end. Bucktail’s only hope for a share of a conference title would be by defeating both Sugar Valley and St. John Neumann and having Muncy fall to Montgomery and St. John Neuman, a highly unlikely scenario.
The Lady Bucks get no break in their schedule as they will next meet 3A Warrior Run (9-7) on Monday in Farwell.
