Laurelly Fork Fish Nursery Fish Stocking 2023

CHAPMAN TOWNSHIP, PA-An estimated 9,000 brown trout as well as some palomino trout were released into seven area streams early Saturday morning on behalf of the Western Clinton Sportsman’s Association and their Laurelly Fork Fish Hatchery.

Volunteers began netting the fish from Laurelly before daybreak, braving the wind and rain before transporting them in preparation of the April 1st  state-wide opening day of trout season. The release into area streams is an addition to what is stocked by the PA Fish Commission.

The highlight for many is watching young anglers help to net the fish from the hatchery into large tanks for the trout to me moved to local waters. Often times the bounty is so great that the kids that are scooping the trout need assistance from family members or WCSA volunteers to be able to lift the next filled with dozens of squirming fish.

Also this year WCSA’s current best friend Kedda Bissman presented a check for over $1,000 to the sportsmen’s association in her continued support of the club. The 9th grade Bucktail student plans on being a marine biologist and has been a constant at the hatchery. Bissman has spearheaded three fundraisers including a soup sale to raise the money that she recently donated to the WCSA.
