LHU’s Noto Wins in First Round at NCAAs
TULSA, Okla. – The Lock Haven University men’s wrestling team opened the 2022-23 NCAA Division I Championships with Session 1 action Thursday afternoon. Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was No. 8 seed Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima (NC State)), who posted a victory in the First Round at 125 pounds.
Noto advanced to the Second Round with a 5-2 win over No. 25 seed Joe Prata of Oklahoma. Noto recorded a takedown in the first period, and late in the match to earn the hard-fought victory. The win was Noto’s 19th straight in a streak that dates back to Dec. 19.
Noto was one of four Bald Eagles in action during Session 1. No. 28 seed (133) Gable Strickland (Benton, Pa./Benton), No. 31 seed (157) Ashton Eyler (Millersburg, Ohio/ Claymont High (Iowa Central CC)), and No. 31 seed (174) Tyler Stoltzfus (Mifflinburg, Pa./Saint Joseph’s Academy) all dropped their First-Round bouts.
At 133, Strickland fell to No. 5 seed Kai Orine (North Carolina State) by pin (4:05). Eyler fell to No. 2 seed Levi Haines of Penn State by decision, 10-3 at 157, and, at 174, Stoltzfus was edged out 9-6 by No. 2 seed Mikey Labriola of Nebraska in a tight First-Round match.
