Keystone Central president sets public meeting on school safety

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Keystone Central School District Board President David Dietrich has announced a public meeting on the topic of safety in the schools. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Mountain High School auditorium.

The announcement came in the form of a Lock Haven Express Wednesday story containing comments from school board president Dietrich. He is quoted as saying, “The scope of the meeting is narrow. It is a continuation of our ongoing efforts to address public concern regarding safety. It is our first public meeting on this topic. This meeting is not specifically related to any particular safety related incidents. Examples of such will not be covered at this meeting.”

Dietrich is quoted as also saying, “This meeting is an opportunity for the board to share some short-term ideas that we are taking a serious look at implementing. And to ask the public for their ideas that we can potentially take into consideration. These would be ideas that we could, potentially, take action on within the next month or so to enhance our existing safety related programs and policies. Future meetings on this topic will be scheduled as needed pending the outcome of this first meeting.”

The Record has learned that Dietrich had taken it upon himself to call the March 22 meeting. He has been a school board member since his appointment in April of last year and was elected president at the board’s reorganizational meeting last December.

The most recent public school board meeting on March 9 had heard concerns about student safety at Central Mountain High School, including a March 6 incident which saw, according to a law enforcement report, a co-ed there attacked by another female student in a high school restroom.
