Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
The eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews gives to us a list of the men and women of the Old Testament who lived by faith. A man named Noah was a hero of faith. (v.7)
It was by faith that Noah, having been warned by God, “prepared an ark” to save his family from the flood. Peter, in his first epistle, wrote about the long suffering of God. He waited “in the days of Noah” while the ark was being built to save the world. (3:20)
Jesus also spoke about “the days of Noah”. He said,” “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:37).
God looked down from heaven and saw all the wickedness that was in the world. (Genesis 6:5) He also saw that the earth was filled with violence. (v.13) So he decided to destroy the earth with a flood.
There were in those days, just as it is today, scoffers who don’t believe. In the second epistle of Peter it Says “that there shall come in the last days scoffers.” They will say, “Where is the promise of his Coming?” (3:3, 4)
The promise is in John 14:3. Jesus said, “And if I go… I will come again.” He did go away, and he will come back again.
