Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
In the eighth chapter of the book of Romans Paul asks the question : “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (v. 35) Paul was persuaded that there was no creature “able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (v. 39).
The love of Christ is the love of God. When Jesus said that The gave to his sheep eternal life, he made a promise to them. They would never perish because no one would be able to pluck them out of his hand. (John 10:28)
Then Jesus said that his Father, who gave the sheep to him, is greater than all. And no one is able to pluck them out of his Father’s hand. (v.29) The hand of Jesus and the hand of God; The love of Jesus and the love of God.
How great is the love of God? Frederick M. Lehman has written that the love of God is so much greater than any tongue or pen could ever tell. Use your imagination as you read the following:
“Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain. the whole, Though stretched from Sky to Sky.”
