LH men’s basketball falls at Millersville, 78-56
MILLERSVILLE, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (16-7, 12-6 PSAC) traveled to Millersville University (16-8, 13-5 PSAC) on Wednesday night for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest, but the hosts pulled away for the 78-56 win.
Despite the result, the Bald Eagles still wrapped up a spot in the PSAC playoffs on Wednesday, and The Haven will make their fourth straight trip to the conference postseason.
The Marauders came out firing in the first half and were able to build an early 15-3 lead. The Millersville party continued for the rest of the half as the hosts shot 52 percent from the field and built up a 42-21 lead at the halftime break.
Millersville kept rolling in the second half, and a stout defensive effort kept The Haven at bay. The closest the Bald Eagles were able to get in the second half was 19 points, and the Marauders cruised home for the 78-56 win.
Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) led the Bald Eagle offensive output with 12 points, and Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael’s)) chipped in eight.
On the glass, Mike Knouse (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) paced all players and hauled in eight rebounds, but Millersville held a slight 38-35 advantage on the glass.
Defensively, Gabe Springer (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wallenpaupack (Lackawanna)) made an impact, blocking three shots, but LHU was unable to overcome the Marauders 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Lock Haven hosts Kutztown on Saturday (Feb. 11) in a Senior Day contest. That game is slated for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
