Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

Jesus was on his way to the city of Jerusalem. As he went from one city and village to another, he was teaching the people along the way.

Someone asked him, “Lord, are there few that are saved? He responded by saying,” Strive, to enter in at the strait gate. In other words, go through the narrow door.

“Many,” he said unto them, “will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

That is because they try to enter through the wrong door. It is not true, as someone once said, that there are many doors, and they all lead to heaven

“I am the door,” Jesus said, in John 10:9. “By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go
in and out, and find pasture.”

The pasture is for the sheep. Earlier, Jesus said, “I am the door of the sheep” (V. 7). When we come to Jesus, we become one of his sheep. Jesus is the one and only door, as the children’s Chorus makes clear:

One door, and only one, and yet its sides are two, Inside and outside, on which side are you?”

The one who said, I am the door,” also said, (John 14:6)
