CM girls edged by Penns Valley in holiday tourney final
SPRING MILLS, PA – A first half deficit proved to be too much to overcome Thursday night as Penns Valley held off the Central Mountain girls’ basketball team to take the holiday tournament title with a 46-44 win.
Coach Scott Baker’s team trailed 11-6 after one period and 25-16 at the half. The Lady Wildcats battled back, down 34-28 after three quarters but couldn’t quite pull out the win. The loss dropped CM to 3-4.
Penns Valleys Ana Marie McMurtrie proved to be a one-person wrecking crew for the victors, scoring 27 points, including three 3-pointers. Kiahna Jones led Central Mountain with 17, followed by Taylor Doyle with 9. Also scoring were Tara Mader 5, Keely Rohrbach 4, Morgan Temple 3, and 2 each from Ava Doyle, Grace Keohane and Danica Kelly. Temple had the team’s lone 3-pointer.
