Wildcat boys with fast start, log win at Mifflinburg
MIFFLINBURG, PA – The Central Mountain boys’ basketball team played about as well as they can in the first half at Mifflinburg Tuesday, roaring to a 48-28 halftime lead. But the host team Mifflinburg battled back, making a game of it before Central Mountain headed home with a 77-69 win.
Wildcat coach Tyler Bardo said afterword his team executed perfectly in the first half but attributed the less than stellar second half to a “lack of focus against a good team.” At this point, coach Bardo said, the team is working on sustainability and said Mifflinburg is a tough place to play, so “To win here is positive. Now we move on.”
The Wildcats’ returning Heartland Conference All-Star tandem of seniors Jack Hanna and Hayden Pardoe lit up the scoreboard. Hanna had 16 points in the first period, 20 by halftime. Pardoe had 8 in the first, 6 more in the second, to total 14 at halftime. Hanna finished with 29 points, Pardoe with 28.
Sophomore Hunter Hoy had 12 and senior Essex Taylor with 8. The team shot 20-for-26 from the foul line.
The win pushed the Wildcats to a 3-0 start, now 1-0 in Heartland play with the Tuesday win. Mifflinburg dropped to 2-2 overall. Central Mountain continues its December road trip Friday at Hollidaysburg, the Golden Tigers off to an uncharacteristic 0-4 start.
