LH men’s basketball grabs fourth straight win; romps past Cal. (Pa.)
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team (6-1, 2-0 PSAC) extended their win streak to four in row with an 89-71 win over California (Pa.) (3-5, 0-2 PSAC) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest in Thomas Fieldhouse.
Saturday night’s win marked the fourth in a row for the Bald Eagles and they also moved to 2-0 in conference play.
Early in the first half, it was a battle from downtown as both teams traded early buckets from beyond the arc. The lead changed a handful of times in the opening minutes, but the Vulcans pushed ahead 24-18 with seven minutes to play. California’s lead held until halftime at 36-32.
Lock Haven quickly gained the lead in the second half at 38-36 after a layup from Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) handed The Haven the lead.
Once ahead, the Bald Eagles put the pedal down and soared past the Vulcans. They stretched ahead by as many as 22 points and cruised home for the 89-71 win in front of a raucous Thomas Fieldhouse.
In trademark Haven fashion, five Bald Eagles totaled double figures in scoring. Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael’s)) led the way with 16, and Davis totaled 14. Gorham also paced the team with eight rebounds.
James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) both notched 13 points and Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) rounded out the scoring chipping in 11.
Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) filled up the stat sheet for The Haven and posted a career-high of nine assists. He also added seven rebounds and three steals to go with five points.
The Bald Eagles and Vulcans were deadlocked at 37-37 in rebounding, but The Haven lit up the scoreboard posting a 53 percent mark from the field.
Defensively, LHU forced 18 turnovers and held the Vulcans to a .433 field goal percentage to bring home the conference victory.
