Lady Bucks Advance to Galeton Tip-Off final with 36-27 win over Austin
By Bees O’Brien
GALETON, PA- Kendall Wagner’s varsity basketball debut went off without a hitch. The Bucktail freshman’s 11 second half points, combined with Alexis Lowery’s 11 points helped the Lady Bucks advance to their third straight Galeton tip-off tournament final with a 37-26 victory over District 9’s Austin Lady Panthers.
Bucktail (1-0) led only 18-15 at the break. Kendall Wagner would enter the game in the third quarter and would score a quick 6 points, including a three-point basket. This led to an 11-4 Bucktail advantage in the frame and would be what would set the tone for the remainder of the contest.
It was Lowery in the first half that kept things going for Bucktail. She would score 9 of the Lady Bucks’ 18 first half points.
Mak Wagner was limited to just 8 points on the night, but head coach Carl Gentzyel has to welcome the standout play from Kendall Wagner and Lowery.
Ellie Brewer led Austin with 10 points.
Bucktail will now meet the winner of Williamson and Galeton in Saturday night’s championship contest.
