LH men’s wrestling takes on Navy Classic; Bald Eagles place fifth

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team traveled to Annapolis, Maryland Saturday for the 2022 Navy Classic and the Bald Eagles took fifth out of 12 teams attending.

The Haven saw Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima (NC State)) took third place at 125 pounds and three other Bald Eagles placed fourth in a crowded field which saw Nebraska claim the team title.

Noto, ranked No. 12 in this week’s InterMat rankings, went 3-1 on the day, and after tight semifinal setback, rebounded to take bronze with a decision win over American’s Maximilian Leete.

The Bald Eagle trio in fourth featured Gable Strickland (Benton, Pa./Benton), Connor Eck (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and Colin Fegley (Mahanoy, Pa./Mahanoy).

Strickland went 2-2 on the day at 133 pounds including a 15-3 major decision victory over Ohio’s Paul Woo.

Eck rebounded with three straight wins to take fourth place at 149 pounds, and Fegley finished his day 2-2 at 184 pounds.

No. 32 Ashton Eyler (Millersburg, Ohio/ Claymont High (Iowa Central CC)) notched three-straight wins to take fifth-place and finish 4-1 on the day.

Other place-winners included Tyler Dilley (Saint Mary’s, Pa./Saint Mary’s) who took sixth at 141 pounds, Tyler Stoltzfus (Mifflinburg, Pa./Saint Joseph’s Academy) placed seventh at 174 and the pair of Brad Morrison (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) and Nick Stonecheck (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford High School) finished eighth at 197 and 149, respectively.

The Haven returns to Thomas Fieldhouse on Sunday, November 27 to host Mat Town Open I.
