LHU:Football drops road contest with West Chester
WEST CHESTER, PA – The Lock Haven University football team (1-8, 0-6 PSAC East) fell to West Chester (5-4, 3-3 PSAC East), 58-10, on Saturday afternoon in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.
In what was the final home game of the season for the Golden Rams, the two teams played out a scoreless opening quarter.
West Chester opened the scoring with a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter and added seven more points on a Jordan Cooper seven-yard touchdown run to move ahead 10-0.
With 1:25 left in the half, Brett Zachman (Leesburg, Fla./Eustis (Dordt)) got Lock Haven on the board with a 26-yard field goal to cap a 10-play 63-yard drive and cut the deficit to 10-3.
The Golden Rams added another touchdown drive just before halftime and took a 17-3 lead into the break. WCU exploded in the third quarter for 34 total points and jumped ahead 51-3.
With 46 second left in the third quarter, DeAndre Wakefield (Norristown, Pa./Souderton) broke through the defense for a 75-yard touchdown rush for the Bald Eagles lone touchdown of the day.
West Chester added one more score in the fourth quarter to take home a 58-10 victory.
Wakefield led all rushers on the day and totaled 98 yards, including his 75-yard touchdown scamper.
Defensively, Justin Anderson (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) was a force in the WCU backfield racking up two sacks, two and a half tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and five total tackles.
Darryl Pollard (Philadelphia/Upper Darby) notched eight tackles including six solo stops and a tackle for loss.
At quarterback, Danny Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman (Stony Brook)) completed 14-27 passes for 113 total yards.
