Bald Eagles Prep for Rider and PSU

lhu-matsLOCK HAVEN – First-year Bald Eagle head coach Scott Moore (above) knows his Lock Haven University wrestling team has a major challenge on its hands at Penn State’s Rec Hall this Sunday afternoon. The Bald Eagles, 2-1 heading into a Friday match at Rider, are scheduled for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Nittany Lions at sold out Rec Hall on Sunday.

All Penn State has done recently is win the last three NCAA titles (the 2013 title flag will be raised before Sunday’s dual meet). The Nittany Lions, even without three returning starters, are off to a 2-0 start, winning last weekend on the road at Rider, 34-8, and at Lehigh, 27-14.

Lock Haven meanwhile is 2-1, losing its first dual last Friday, 27-14, at Pitt. Bald Eagle winners were Dan Neff, Billy Randt, Jake Kemerer and Fred Garcia. LHU is scheduled to wrestle at Rider this Friday at 7 p.m.

Penn State has been without Central Mountain grads Andrew and Dylan Alton in the early going, both recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and both expected back in mid-December. Also missing PSU’s dual meets last weekend was defending NCAA champion Ed Ruth, out for what the school termed a violation of team rules; no date has been announced for his return.

Sunday’s match will be aired on AM1230 WBPZ. As of early this week less than 80 standing room only tickets remained for sale.
