Seals down Wildcats, 42-6

SELINSGROVE, PA – After a couple possessions Friday, it was a 0-0 game between homestanding Selinsgrove and visiting Central Mountain. But once the Seals got untracked, they didn’t stop, scoring on their next six possessions on the way to a 42-6 win.

Selinsgrove, bouncing back from a 19-0 shutout from Mifflinburg a week ago, moved to 5-2 with the win. Central Mountain, which battled all night long, dropped to 0-7 with the loss.

The Seals used a big-play script like the one used by Williamsport in the Millionaires’ win over the Wildcats the previous Friday. Among the six Selinsgrove touchdowns, four were long-distance runs: 25, 50, 58 and 71 yards. Seal junior Tucker Teats set the tempo, rushing for 85 yards on eight carries, scoring three first half touchdowns before departing with an injury near the end of the half; by that point Selinsgrove had opened a 28-0 lead.

The Seals’ defense kept the Wildcat offense in check in the first half. Central Mountain had more success in the second half. The Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the fourth period, a 49-yard drive culminating in a 1-yard touchdown run from quarterback Tom Sprague. The score was set up by the running of sophomore Jake Weaver (three carries for 36 yards) and freshman Carnell Noone (seven rushes for 38 yards).

Quarterback Sprague replaced starter Brady Myers late in the second period after Myers was shaken up. The game was the 1,000th in Selinsgrove’s football history and also Homecoming for the Seals.

Central Mountain is on the road again next Friday, visiting a new foe in Garden Spot from New Holland, Lancaster County. The Spartans fell to 5-2 on the season with a Friday 37-29 loss to Twin Valley.
