Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

These words, spoken by David in Psalm 103:2, are a reminder to us to remember the goodness of God. How easy it is to forget the good things that happened to us, and remember only the bad things.

The Bible tells us to remember the Lord our God. It also warns us to beware lest we forget the Lord our God.
This Psalm gives us some of the reasons why we should bless the Lord because of all his benefits:

Bless The Lord, who forgives all our sins.
Bless The Lord, who heals all our sicknesses.
Bless The Lord, who redeems us from destruction.
Bless The Lord, who crowns us with his love and mercy.
Bless the Lord, who satisfies us with the good things to renew us.

David also was thinking about the Lord’s benefits in Psalm 116. He asks: “What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?” (v.12)

His answer: “I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.” (v.13)

And let us remember all the Lord’s benefits towards us.
