Words of Grace

By Pastor Mahlon Nevel

As Jesus was leaving the city of Jericho with his disciples, a great crowd of people followed them. A blind man by the name of Bartimaus was sitting by the side of the road.

He got excited when he heard Jesus was passing by. ”Jesus” he cried, “have mercy on me.”

Those who were near him tried to get him to quiet down, but he just cried out all the more, “Have mercy on me.”
Jesus stood still then he asked the blind man what he wanted. ”Lord” he began to answer, “that I might receive my sight.”

Why did Jesus ask him what he was in need of when it was obvious what the answer was? It was so that the blind man would make it a prayer request.

The Bible tells us that the Lord knows what we have need of before we even ask. There are some who say that they don’t pray because God knows what they need. He can give them what they need without them having to ask for it.

Jesus told the blind man to go on his way because his faith had made him whole. Receiving his sight immediately, he began to follow Jesus.
