Sugar Valley golfers in rebuild mode

LOGANTON, PA – Losing two-thirds of their starting lineup to graduation means it’s rebuilding time for the Sugar Valley Charter School golf team.

But as Coach Ty Koser notes, the team has a few golfers returning this year, most entering the lineup for the first time in their golf careers. Senior Noah Pletcher looks to be number one golfer this year, one of two returning starters from last year. Senior Gwynne Showers looks to bring added depth to the lineup. She became the first female competitor for the Sugar Valley team last year. Coach Koser said he is looking forward to seeing her develop as a competitive golfer.

Sophomore Bryer Martin, juniors Stuart Meixel and Josh Miller-Mitchell and freshmen Remmington Ripka, and Ben Parker are coming to the program as younger players, with Remmington and Ben playing high school golf for the first time.

Coach Koser said he is excited to get them some playing experience and to be competitive in their matches. “As defending Mid-Penn Athletic Conference (District 4) champs, we look to keep our string of success going. It’s hard to replace the 2020 and 2021 MPAC Golf MVP Corbin Homan but I know that our seniors have the ability to lead the team and still compete for the conference championship.” He said Benton and Montgomery have been improving over the last few years, so he expects a tight race for the conference title.

SV got a jump on the season last week, falling to Shamokin. They were scheduled to participate in the Susquehanna Valley Rivalry, a tri-meet at Clinton Country Club on Monday of this week, weather permitting; other contests Central Mountain and Jersey Shore High Schools.
