CM golf looking for continued success

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – If there is a listing of programs that have continued success since the inception of Central Mountain High School a couple decades back, the Wildcat golf program would have to be among them.

And veteran coach John Lodek is hoping this fall’s campaign will be no exception. With five starters back, the results look promising. They are seniors: Peyton Newlen and Brayden Blackwell; juniors: Gardner Fravel and Griffin Walizer; sophomore Evan Walker. They are part of the largest turnout in recent years, 18 boys and two girls.

The coach said the program is excited with all the others that have either joined the team or have worked hard to get into the top 8. The other golfers are Steven Heverly, Steven Fisher, Drew Vangorder, Reese Walizer, Zach St Clair, Caleb Mahoney, Michael Lodek, Evan Miller, Owen Wunder, Hunter Hoy, Joe Caimi, Brady Lavelle, Blaze Conway, Jon Conway and Emily Everett.

With the talent on hand, coach Lodek said, the team has goals of reaching the District 6 tournament as a team for the first time in many years. He said many golfers reached sectionals last year, but the hope is for more success and a move on to the next level.

The team would also like to regain the Heartland Conference title in 2022. Lewisburg ended a five-year CM championship run last season.

As for individual honors, last year then senior Gunner Redmond placed in districts. Several of the current players hope to follow his lead, the coach said.

The Wildcats were to open their season on Monday of this week, the annual Susquehanna River Rivalry meet at the Clinton Country Club with Sugar Valley Rural Charter School and Jersey Shore.
