Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
Redemption is a word that is found throughout all of scripture. To be redeemed is to be delivered from the enemy.
In Exodus 6:6 God told his people that he was going to redeem them from their enemy the Egyptians. With a mighty arm he would bring them out of bondage and set them free.
This is also mentioned in psalm 106:10. God saved and delivered them from the hand of those who hated them, and then he redeemed them from the hand of their enemy.
Psalm 107:2 tells us that the redeemed of the Lord are all those whom the Lord has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” In other words they are to proclaim the good news of their redemption!
This is what hymn writer Fanny Crosby is doing: “Redeemed how I love to Proclaim it! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.”
The Apostle Peter, in his first epistle, reminds us that we are not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, but with the Precious Blood of Christ, the Lamb of God. (1:18, 19)
Bible teacher James M. Gray writes, “I am redeemed, but not with silver; I am bought but not with gold; Bought with a price- the blood of Jesus, precious price of love untold.”
