Optimist Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

As I write this column, packing and getting ready to take off for church camp with our special needs campers! It is always great to see your former campers and even meet new ones. It is always a standing joke but when we go to camp it will be a hot week, so here we go again. I just keep reminding myself that it is not about me, but it’s about sharing the love of Jesus at Greene Hills camp and witnessing shouting and singing the praises of God!

Our theme this year is Treasure Hunters as we will learn and share that even though we can be like broken like pots of clay, to God we are His treasure! One of our lessons will be how our Lord can take us, mold us and transform us into something beautiful to do His work on earth!

As you read this, I will be packing up to come back home with hopefully many more memories. After 24 years, I have many treasured moments that I have already experienced in the mountainous area of this camp.

Facing a hot week, my prayer is for everyone to be happy and healthy as well! As I leave with a car packed full of things to do, to decorate, a Bible, a few fans, and an excitement to see my counselor friends and campers, I thank God for giving me this opportunity to spread the message of love to some very special children of God!!
