Optimist Roundtable
By Martha Sykes
For many years, one of my favorite Christian songs is called, “ I Can Only Imagine”. No matter how many times I hear that song, it almost always brings tears to my eyes as I listen to the lyrics. It makes me realize as i hear these words, “ Surrounded by your glory what will my heart do, when I dance for you Jesus? Or in awe of you be still? Will I sing alleluia ? Will I be able to speak at all?”
And then when we read scriptures about the miracles of Jesus, It can cause us to think of those words. Just how would we react if we were able to be in His presence when He performed His miracles? For instance, to be a witness that day on that mountain side when Jesus fed the over 5000 people would be something that we could only imagine. Or when He made the lame man walk, or made the blind man see. Those all were times when there was a crowd of people following and they were in awe of His presence and all of His miraculous powers!
It’s so amazing to read these Bible stories and it tells us so much about how we are to be just like Jesus. If we just give Jesus a little bit of ourselves, the miraculous part of that is that He can take what little we have and turn it into something great. As we read of Jesus’s miracles, there are so many teachable moments for us because He always worked through people to show us His way.
It doesn’t matter how old or young a person is, because we can always be of service to Christ. We always have something to offer just as we are.
Well, we can “ only imagine” what it was like on those many days when Jesus walked on this earth and performed miracles. We can always be in awe of Him, especially when we meet Him face to face. In the meantime, we can also be in awe of Him , but what will keep us going is knowing that one day we will be in His mighty and holy presence!
