GENEVA, OH – Anthony Noto, Lock Haven University wrestling team’s Mid-American Conference champion and national qualifier at 125 pounds added a prestigious feather to his cap Sunday at the 2022 United World Wrestling (UWW) U23 United States National Championships and World Team Trials.
Competing in the 57-kilogram division, Noto bested the field and rolled to a 7-1 overall record to take a little extra hardware back to Mat-Town U.S.A.
In the opening bout of a best of three championship matchup against two-time NCAA qualifier Trevor Mastrogiovanni of Oklahoma State, Noto’s comeback attempt fell just short in a tight 7-6 decision. The Bald Eagle, however, bounced back decisively in the second bout securing a 4-0 win, before bringing home the crown with a 4-2 victory.
Along the way to his title, Noto picked up wins over the eventual third-place finisher Gregory Diakomihalis in the semifinals and a two-time NCAA Qualifier from N.C. State in Jarrett Trombley.
With the win, Noto also puts himself in contention for a spot at the 2022 UWW World Championships as the representative of United States World Team.
In total, 12 Bald Eagles competed over the weekend with seven making it to the second day of action.
