Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

God reigns from heaven. He sits upon his holy throne. (Psalm 47:8) The Lord Reigns, sitting between the cherubim. (Psalm 99:1)

The cherubim, also called Seraphim, have a special place in the presence of God in heaven. They worship the Holy God who sits upon the throne of his holiness, saying continually “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts.” (Isaiah 6:3)

Isaiah the prophet saw the Lord, high and lifted up as he sat upon his holy throne in heaven. (V.1) In the presence of God’s holiness, he confessed his own sinfulness. (V.5)

John also saw a throne, and one sitting upon the throne in heaven. (Revelation 4:2). He also saw the angels, and he heard them saying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.” (V.8)

The holy Throne of God will become a judgement throne in the future. John saw a great white throne, and one sitting upon it to judge the earth. (20:11-15)

But God’s throne is also called “the throne of grace” in Hebrews 4:16. We can now come boldly to God in prayer through Jesus, our great high priest.

“When you pray as Christ directed, In the manner clearly shown, In his name and by his Spirit, You will always touch the throne.”
