MANHEIM, PA – After a strong opening month to the season that saw a number of impressive finishes, the Lock Haven University women’s wrestling team jumped into the national rankings and claimed the No. 15 spot in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings behind Jessica Johnson’s No. 8 national individual ranking in the 155 weight class.

For the Bald Eagles it will mark a historic first national ranking, as the team competes in their first full season of competition.

Rankings are based on a tournament power index (TPI), and point totals are broken down by individual rankings and correlate to placement points at the national championships.

Lock Haven finds itself in a four-way tie for the No. 15 spot with Schreiner, East Stroudsburg, and William Jewell, all scoring three points in the poll behind one ranked wrestler each.

Back on November 7th, at the ESU Open, Johnson claimed the individual tournament championship at 155. She went 4-0 on the day and knocked off preseason No. 7 wrestler Taylor Hites of Tiffin by way of VPO, 8-0. Johnson opened her season 5-0 with two tech falls and a pin to boot.

Lock Haven’s first home competition this season will come this Saturday, December 4 when the Bald Eagles host a tri-meet with No. 11 Sacred Heart and No. 14 New Jersey City. The full 2021-22 LHU women’s wrestling schedule is available at GoLHU.com.
