LHU wrestling opens season Sunday at at Clarion Open

CLARION, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s wrestling team opened the 2021-22 season Sunday at the Clarion University Open. Leading the way for LHU was a trio of unattached wrestlers.

Connor Eck (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) paced the effort after taking second at 149 pounds. Competing unattached, Eck was 4-1 and his only loss came in the finals to Clarion’s Brent Moore, 3-2 in a tightly-contested bout.

Competing unattached at 125 pounds, Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed third overall after going 4-1 on the day. Noto recorded one major and one tech fall and in the third-place bout, he edged out Joey Fischer of Clarion (UNA), 4-3.

Jack Coulston (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) was fourth at 141 after going 3-2, while competing unattached.

Nick Stonecheck (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford) added a sixth-place finish at 141 for the Bald Eagles.

Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Kollin Myers (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs), Colin Fegley (Mahanoy, Pa./Mahanoy), Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) all made their season debuts for Lock Haven. The four returned to the lineup after competing for LHU at last season’s Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament.

Werner picked up a pair of wins and inched closer to career-win No. 100. He now has 93 career victories at LHU and he looks to become the 23rd member of the Bald Eagles’ 100-win club.

Lock Haven will open the 2021-22 season with four straight tournament appearances. LHU will open the dual portion of the schedule at home on Thursday, Dec. 2 vs. Michigan State. Two days later on Dec. 4, the Bald Eagles will host nationally-ranked Lehigh. Those two early-December and noteworthy dual matchups mark two of five true-home duals in Thomas Fieldhouse. Lock Haven will also host Mid-American Conference duals vs. George Mason, Clarion and Cleveland State. To date, the Bald Eagles are also scheduled to host three tournaments.
