Late-game heroics push Bald Eagle booters past West Chester , 2-1

WEST CHESTER, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (6-1-2, 4-0-1 PSAC East) used a last-minute goal to knock off West Chester (4-1-1, 4-1 PSAC East), 2-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Saturday.

The Bald Eagles and the Golden Rams remained deadlocked the entire first half despite each team firing off five shots. In the second half, Justin Douglas (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) got The Haven started taking an assist from Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and firing the Bald Eagles to a 1-0 lead.

West Chester leveled the game up at 1-1 in the 78th minute as Tommy Bodenschatz found the back of the net for a critical game-tying goal.

In the final minute of regulation, LHU earned a corner kick and Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) swung a ball into Swope who headed it past the keeper to send the Bald Eagles to the huge conference win. The goal was Swope’s first on the season and Sibiski’s seventh assist on the year, which pushed him into a tie for first place in the PSAC.

Goalkeeper Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) made seven big saves for the Bald Eagles.

The win extends LHU’s unbeaten streak to seven games and pushes them to first place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings as they came into the match just behind West Chester.

Next week the Bald Eagles will host Millersville and Shippensburg in back-to-back home contests on Wednesday, October 13 and Saturday, October 16.
