Redbank Valley Too Much For Outmanned Bucks

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL, PA – It was no secret that Redbank Valley was going to walk out of Farwell with a key D9 League South victory. The only real question was just how bad it was going to be, but for one quarter the Bucks held their own against the potential 1A State Champions.

Redbank was seeking to make an example of Bucktail to send to their rivals Keystone and they did just that by the 49-6 count, but it wasn’t as easy as they had hoped.

The visiting Bulldogs received new life in their quest for a league title following Keystone’s 26-24 loss to Union AC Valley on Thursday night. Redbank didn’t take long to strike.

Bucktail’s offense fizzled on their first possession of the game. Redbank’s massive defensive front forced the Bucks to punt, which resulted in disaster.

Bucktail freshman Brody Pentz was thrust into the punting role with Ashton Intallura unavailable. Pentz delivered a nice punt, but Redbank’s Ashton Kahle fielded the punt and was off to the races. Kahle would bolt 72 yards for the game’s first score.

Bucktail’s offense continued to fail to gain much ground, but would have new life when Redbank’s Tate Minnich fumbled the ball. The Bucks put together their best drive of the first half off of the turnover.

A 20-yard catch by Kyler Friese from Dylan Cross kept the Bucks moving. Zack Pick would then break loose on a 30-yard scamper to push Redbank back.

The first quarter drive would stall on a Bucktail fumble near the end of the first quarter.

The wheels came off for Bucktail in the second quarter of play and it once again began with the Redbank Valley special teams play. Marquese Gardlock would block a Brody Pentz punt that would set up a Ray Schreckengost 9-yard run.

Less than three minutes later, Schreckengost would find the end zone again on a 5-yard run and just like that the home team found themselves down 18-0.

Redbank Valley’s lightning quick offensive attack kept on rolling to close out the half. Quarterback Bryson Bain would hook up with Gardlock on a 13-yard touchdown and with just over a minute to go in the half Bain would call his own number on a one yard score to set the halftime score at 30-0, Redbank Valley.

Bain continued to chew up the outmanned Bucktail defense in the second half. Redbank orchestrated a lightning quick drive to start the half capped off by Bain’s 26 yard scoring strike to Aiden Ortz. The Bain to Ortz score came in less than a minute of play and the mercy rule was put on the Bucks, down 36-0.

Bucktail wouldn’t quit.

The Bucks eventually put together a third quarter drive that was capped off with a Cross 18-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Fantaski to make the score 36-6.

Cross finished the night with just 62 yards passing along with his touchdown throw. Fantaski led all Bucktail receivers with 2 catches for 42 and the score.

Redbank Valley would add a couple late scores to set the final at 49-6.

Bain was on target for the Bulldogs. He would go 11-19 on the night for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Gardlock’s 4 catches for 64 yards and a score led all receivers.

The Bucks hit the road next Friday to take on Otto-Eldred, who suffered a 30-28 loss to Coudersport Friday night. Redbank Valley will meet those same Coudersport Falcons next Friday.
