CM girls’ soccer edged by Shamokin
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – It wasn’t for lack of effort Wednesday night, but the Central Mountain girls’ soccer team fell just short to a solid Shamokin team, the visiting Lady Indians going home with a 2-0 win.
Shamokin, now 6-3, scored just eight minutes into the game and that goal held up until the visitors converted a direct kick off the crossbar and into the net with just 10 second remaining to put the final at 2-0. The loss came despite another valiant effort from the Central Mountain defenders and goalkeeper Madison Briggs. She was peppered with 15 shots on goal and made multiple outstanding saves to keep her teammates in the game.
Again the Lady Wildcats struggled offensively and afterwards head coach Ryan Veltri said offensive improvement is a matter of progression, beginning with the basics starting with good first touches and moving forward. He said team members are “giving their all” and lauded “their effort, their resilience” and said they are improving every day all the while having a good time.
Meanwhile Shamokin held Central Mountain to just one shot on goal and had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. The Lady ‘Cats dropped to 1-6 with the loss. It was their third game since last Saturday.They’ll be off until Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Montoursville.
