CM girls’ soccer edged by Danville
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain girls’ soccer team made a second half run at visiting Danville at Malinak Stadium on Saturday, but the final goal went to the Lady Ironmen and Danville went home with a hard-earned 3-2 win.
Lady ‘Cat head coach Ryan Veltri said it almost became the greatest second half comeback for his team. Danville jumped out to a two-zero lead after thirty plus minutes in the first half.
In the second half, the Lady Wildcats came out firing as they tied the game with two great goals. The first goal of the season came from sophomore Halle Lodek off a corner from sophomore Taylor Campbell. With under ten minutes left, freshman Jaslyn Anderson recorded her first career goal to tie the game.
With five minutes left, the Lady Ironmen found an open player and slammed the winning goal home. Central Mountain had a corner in the final minute but could not tie the game.
Coach Veltri called the game, “A tale of two halves as the Lady Wildcats looked as though they would have been able to hold onto the tie. Central Mountain continues to improve every day!”
The JV game was similar to the first. Danica Kelly recorded her first goal of the season putting the Lady Wildcats ahead but two goals by the Lady Ironmen made it difficult for Central Mountain to come back. The coach said a fantastic save by goal keeper Kihana Jones in the first half kept the game close.
Now 0-3, Central Mountain returns to play Monday, hosting Williamsport.
