LOCK HAVEN, PA ā€“ The Lock Haven University football team has announced its team captains, by way of team vote.

In unanimous agreement, the team selected linebacker Shane Scott (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), defensive back Kahari Whitfield (Reading, Pa./Reading), linebacker Monte Jones (Annapolis, Md./Frostburg State), wide receiver Justin White (Philadelphia/Ben Franklin, and quarterback Ethan Persa (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) as this year’s captains.

Whitfield, Scott, and Monte Jones lead the charge on the defensive side of the ball. Whitfield and Scott both recorded 54 total tackles back in 2019. Jones, a Frostburg State transfer, has never played a snap in a LHU uniform, but in 2019 set a career-high 13 tackles in a win over Kentucky Wesleyan. He brings a slew of experience that will be important for the development of a young defense for the Bald Eagles.

Back in 2019, Persa played in five games and threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Overall, Persa has played in 15 total games and has accumulated six total pass-TDs. With White as one of his primary receivers, the duo aims to expand on their previous success.

Returning from a two-year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 global pandemic, The Bald Eagles aim to pick up where they left off in 2019. They ended that season with a 28-27 win over Gannon.

This year will be head coach John Kelling’s first official season at the helm for the Bald Eagles after his hire in January of 2020. The Bald Eagles Week 1 game versus Lincoln University will be played at Coatesville Area Senior High School on Saturday, September 4 at 6 p.m. The game will be the first for the team in 658 days.
