Stephen Eugene “Spanky” Ferrara, 56, of Lock Haven passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital.
Born August 20, 1964 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Eugene L. and Beverly Ann (Schiavo) Ferrara.
Stevie was a 1983 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
He served as an exemplary Dispatcher with the Clinton County Communication Center (911) for 24 years before retiring in February 2013.
Stevie was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
He was a lifetime member of Hope Hose Fire Company, formerly serving as Deputy Chief for many years. Additionally, he was a member of Lock Haven E.M.S.
Stevie truly cared about people. He earned accommodation for his life-saving actions when he selflessly entered a burning home in Mill Hall and rescued the family inside while on his way to work.
He was a die-hard fan of the Pirates and Steelers as well as the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Stevie was a true people-person. His contagious smile both welcomed and drew others to him.
He leaves behind two sons, Tanner Ferrara (Colleen) of Woolrich and Trevor Ferrara of Mill Hall; two sisters, Debbi Morris Clover (Michael) of Belleville, IL and Brenda Wilson of Lock Haven; two grandsons: Giovani W. and Armani J. Ferrara; five nieces and nephews: Ashley Clover, Jeremey Clover, Gena Wilson (Stephen Summers), Stephanie Wilson and Stephen Wilson, II; a great nephew, Oliver Summers; the mother of his children, Jennifer Ferrara; and Joy Ferrara.
In addition to his parents, Eugene and Beverly Ferrara, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Margaret Schiavo; paternal grandparents, Samuel and Genevieve Ferrara; a brother-in-law, Stephen Wilson; and numerous aunts and uncles including Charles Schiavo.
A funeral service with a Fireman’s Service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 4 P.M. at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service.
In honor of his grandson, Giovani, memorial contributions in Stevie’s name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the funeral home.
