Almost show time: Fall sports fast approaching

CLINTON COUNTY, PA – As sure as August will soon turn to September, fall sports will soon be underway at Bucktail and Central Mountain High Schools.
The Buck and Wildcat football teams will each have a scrimmage this Saturday in preparation for their 2021 season openers the following week. The Bucktail scrimmage will be at 10 a.m. this Saturday at West Branch High School. The Bucks will open their regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 27 against a new foe, Elk County Catholic from St. Marys. Bucktail this year will be participating in a new District 9 conference.
Central Mountain, with a new coach in Shanon Manning, will travel to Wingate this Saturday for a 10 a.m. scrimmage with host Bald Eagle Area. The Wildcats open their season on Friday, Aug. 27 at Shikellamy High School.
First varsity competitions at both schools will be earlier next week: the Bucktail girls’ tennis team opens Tuesday, Aug. 24 at Cowanesque Valley, a 4 p.m. match. The Central Mountain golf team starts at home on Monday, Aug. 23, entertaining Selinsgrove. The Wildcat girls’ tennis team will visit Altoona on Tuesday, Aug. 24 for a 3:30 p.m. match.
