Central Mountain football back in play

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain football program has been given the go-ahead to resume play following a brief shutdown after a few athletes had tested positive for Impetigo and MRSA. The go-ahead came Tuesday night from Central Mountain assistant principal/athletic director Steve Hafele. The program had been curtailed 24 hours earlier after the positive Impetigo/MRSA test results. Preseason work is to resume on Wednesday.

The resumption of play message to the families of the student-athletes:

Families of 9th-12th Grade Players…

Greetings CM families,

I just wanted to provide you with a quick update in regards to the Impetigo and Mrsa at the Central Mountain High School Field House/ Malinak Stadium. Our team has completely deep cleaned the entire facilities at Malinak Stadium.

Our team consulted firms in terms of effective chemicals to be used in the field house and on the turf field to rid the areas and facilities of this infection as well as more importantly keep our student-athletes safe.

All areas were treated and we feel that will be safely able to return to participation tomorrow. Soccer will remain at the PE field for the remainder of the week, and football will resume at the turf field. This will keep any further mitigation to a minimum. All normal practice schedule locations will fully resume on 8/23 bar any additional complications.

As mentioned in the email last night, it is the recommendation by KCSD over the next 24-48 hours that all student-athletes get checked by their primary doctor or an urgent care physician regardless of signs or symptoms for Impetigo and Mrsa. This is not a requirement to return to participation, but simply a recommendation.

We have communicated with coaches and the athletic trainers that anyone displaying any skin lesions, bumps, or red marks, will need and be required to be seen by a physician and complete a skin lesion form before returning. All forms will be collected by coaches and the athletic trainers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding with this situation. As always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Mr. Hafele
