Wildcats take fourth in a row, down Montoursville 8-0

MILL HALL, PA – Aidan Major and his Central Mountain baseball teammates put together quite the dominating performance this week, starting Monday with a 14-1 win over Jersey Shore and finishing Friday with an 8-0 victory over Montoursville.

Major for the week pitched eight innings over the two games, giving up one unearned run, striking out 19 while walking five. Cru Stover relieved in both games and put up four shutout innings in all, giving up two hits, striking out six and walking none.

Major was dominant Friday against a Montoursville team that came to Mill Hall with a 5-2 record and a team full of hard-hitters.  The Wildcat senior piled up 15 strikeouts over six scoreless innings, giving up five singles but never in hot water.  With his pitch count at 97 after six, Coach Mike Kramer brought in Stover to finish up, which he did with a 1-2-3 inning.

Coach Kramer said Major did “an outstanding job against an excellent hitting team…pleased with his command.” He noted too Major’s growth in maturity over his four years in the Wildcat program. Major is to attend West Virginia on a baseball scholarship the next school year.

The win was the fourth in a row for the now 5-3 Wildcats, a team getting, as the coach said, “some consistency.”  He said the game was a win with solid pitching and clutch hits.

The Wildcats bunched all eight of their runs over the first three innings.  Ciy Probst drove in the first two with a first inning single; Major singled in a run in the second. The third saw a two RBI double from Blade Myers, a ground-out RBI from Peyton Johnson and another RBI single from Major.

Johnson finished with two singles, as did Major. Cy Probst had a single and a double; Stover, Cayde McCloskey and Landyn Carson with singles and Myers with his double. The Wildcats played error-free ball.

The win put Central Mountain at 5-2 in the Heartland Conference. The Warriors dropped to 5-3 on the season, 4-3 in conference play.

Next up for the Wildcats is a home game Monday with Shamokin (0-6), first pitch 4:30 p.m. at Mill Hall Community Park.
