FARWELL, PA – Bucktail baseball coach Bill Probst is working with a squad of 13 this spring and says right up front that the team will be young and inexperienced, so it will be a season of getting better from March through May.

Coach Probst noted even the seniors on the squad have little baseball experience. He said the loss of last year to the pandemic did not help. He also pointed out many of his players are two or three sport athletes; therefore there is no room for fall baseball, as is often the case in larger schools.

He said the players in the program know the year will not be easy, but have accepted the challenge: “It will be challenging for us to compete in some games because of the lack of experience, this will really show up on the mound.”

And if effort counts, the Bucks will be there, he said: “The players have been working really hard at practice. They are committed to helping each other get better. The COVID-19 issue continues to hamper us. We are struggling to get all our players to practice due to COVID- related issues. I have to tip my hat to the players that come out to play baseball. Many of the players have been competing in sports since August when football started.”

The Bucks were to open at home Friday with Galeton, that contest has been postponed until Tuesday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m. And coach Probst said the season will be about growing: “At the end of the season it will not be about the wins or losses, it will be about how each player grows and learns how to overcome the many challenges life throws at them. Baseball is a great way to prepare for the curveballs life throws at you.”
