Dickey School gets a new owner

Longtime auctioneer Harry Schenck, background, left conducted Saturday’s auction for the Dickey Elementary School and its contents

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Two Lock Haven area businessmen, Bobby Maguire and Micah Clausen, are the new owners of the vacated Dickey Elementary School on S. Fairview Street in Lock Haven. The Maguire/Clausen LLC bid of $80,000 was the highest received at Saturday’s noontime auction of the Dickey building itself.

Maguire said there are no specific plans for the two-story structure at this point and acknowledged the building sits in an area zoned Residential-2; that likely means any use for the building other than housing would need approval from the City of Lock Haven. Maguire expressed optimism that some resolution to the zoning matter can be reached.

The Keystone Central school board voted last year to close the school and put the building and its contents up for sale. The building dates to 1966 and runs along W. Bald Eagle Street from S. Jones to S. Fairview Streets. Several district officials, including board president Tracy Smith, board facilities committee chairman Jeff Johnston and district business manager Susan Blesh were present for the auction.

Several hundred people filtered in and out of the fourth ward building as the auction was carried out.
