Toney Leaving PSU for NFL
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Add the name Shaka Toney to Penn State football players leaving the school for the NFL. The standout Nittany Lion took to social media to make his announcement Monday night:
“Growing up in Philadelphia, it was always a dream to play college football. It has been a dream come true to have been able to play at a prestigious university like Penn State. I’m excited for this next chapter and I will forever be blue and white.”
The standout defensive end was an All-Big Ten first team pick in the 2020 season and could have come back for another year in University Park had he wanted. Toney plans to play in the Senior Bowl in Alabama in January.
He had five sacks and made 31 tackles in Penn State’s recently completed 4-5 season. He ended his PSU career in tenth place on the school’s career sack list.
Toney joins fellow defensive end Jayson Oweh to recently announce they are ending their Nittany Lion careers early to enter the NFL draft. Tight end Pat Freliermuth had announced earlier he will not be back at Penn State next season.
The NCAA had announced that players during the 2020 season could have an extra year of eligibility, but so far no Penn State players have announced they’ll be returning for that reason.
