Lady ‘ Cat Last Call: Shamokin Downs Central Mountain, 3-0

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It wasn’t the kind of season-ending contest that Central Mountain fans were looking for, Thursday night’s 3-0 Shamokin win over the home-team Lady Wildcats.
Shamokin’s Sadie Komarc scored at the 36:52 mark of the first half and teammate Carly Nye followed with a second goal with 13:30 to go in the first half, giving the visiting Lady Indians a 2-0 lead at the break.
And while Central Mountain played a much more even second half, especially at the defensive end and at mid-field, the Lady Wildcats still had trouble stitching together passes in their offensive third to put together good scoring chances. Freshman Ava Renninger just missed a goal early on in the second half and had a free kick go just wide a short while later. Shamokin all but put the game away when Peyton Korbich scored at the 19:52 mark of the second half.
Central Mountain was held to just two shots on goal for the night and suffered a fifth shut-out on a season that ended with a 1-14 mark. Coach Jeff Brinker did see good work from a number of freshmen squad members during the course of the contest; CM will return a solid nucleus of letter-winners for next season.
Shots on goal finished at 10-2 Shamokin and the Lady Indians had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Lady ‘Cat goal keep Madison Briggs had another solid night in the net.
