Keystone Central Modifies Attendance Limits for Athletic Events

malinak-stadium-
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – With state-recommended attendance limits in flux, the Keystone Central School District is revising upward somewhat the amount of spectators who may attend athletic events at Central Mountain and Bucktail High Schools.

The local recommendation came Thursday from Keystone superintendent Jacquelyn Martin. She told therecord-online the changes are based on the most recent guidance from the state Education Department, “The only changes I am recommending at this time include providing two tickets to our band, cheer and football players for Friday nights. Visiting teams will receive two tickets per player.” Opposing fans must sit on the opposite bleachers and maintain social distancing and wear masks.

At Bucktail football games, players, the drum line and cheerleaders may receive four tickets each.

As for volleyball, all players will be permitted on the bench during game play and two tickets will be issued per student-athlete for home team and visiting teams. Opposing fans must sit in the opposite bleachers and maintain social distancing and wear masks.

In explaining the new attendance limits, Martin said, “I am not interested in increasing any additional spectator tickets. I want to balance allowing parents to see their children play while keeping our students/staff safe and prevent any possible COVID spread. By limiting tickets we can do contact tracing accurately in the event of an outbreak…each family will know who was present with the limited tickets.”

She added, “Our students are benefiting greatly from their participation in co-curricular activities and I fear that any outbreaks will shut down our athletics operations.”

The spectator information is contained in the district’s “KCSD Athletics Health and Safety Plan” and is reprinted below:
