Two Volunteer Weekend Clean-Ups in Lock Haven Area

LOCK HAVEN – The weather was scorching over the past weekend, but that did not deter two volunteer organizations from staging clean-ups, one east of Lock Haven and one in the downtown. A delegation from the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club was out on Saturday and members of the local Black Lives Matter were in the downtown Sunday.

For nearly 30 years the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club has maintained Route 150 between the Dunnstown Bridge and the Tobacco Shed Road. Twice a year the club, through PennDot’s Adopt a Highway Program, collects garbage and debris.

A Kiwanis spokesman said, “Today was humid, but we got the job done!” 10 bags of garbage and other miscellaneous items such as car parts, insulation, and metal were collected. The club thanked PennDot for supplying bags, gloves, and vests.

For Black Lives Matter, Sunday saw its second clean-up in recent weeks. Director Destiny Urena said considerable debris was picked up and three shopping carts were found and returned to local stores. She said the effort was in honor of the Black Lives Matter organization.
