William “Bill” Walter Darrin – Obituary
William “Bill” Walter Darrin, 77, of Conneautville, formerly of Meadville, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community.
Bill was born in Renovo on June 28, 1942, a son of the late Chester N. and Evelyn (Kautz) Darrin.
While growing up in Renovo, Bill earned his Eagle Scout and graduated from Renovo High School. He furthered his education by graduating from Penn State University and the University of Michigan with a Master’s Degree in Landscaping, Land Planning and Design.
Bill was inducted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea as a Combat Engineer, designing the secondary defense line and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Following his honorable discharge he became a registered landscape architect in Pennsylvania and was the owner of the Environmental Design Group, designing commercial projects, sub-divisions, land planning and residential landscape designs. Bill also owned the Plant Place Garden Center for 40 years until his property was purchased by Meadville Medical Center. Over the years, Bill worked with Robert Trent Jones helping to design the Colts Neck, NJ golf course along with helping to design several other golf courses throughout Pennsylvania.
Bill’s love of plants and nature is visible and a testimonial within the many projects that he created which can still be seen and appreciated throughout not only Meadville, but also throughout areas in Erie, Warren and Clarion.
Bill is survived by his son Christopher M. Darrin and his wife Katherine, a grandson Caden Darrin, a granddaughter Carmen Darrin all of Lafayette, CO, his companion of many years Madelaine Petruso Damico of Meadville, her two children Lisa Nites and her husband John of Pittsburgh, Marc Damico and his wife Joan of Folly Beach, SC, Madelaine’s five grandchildren Emanuel, Michael and Matthew Nites, Alexis and Nicole Damico, whom he considered his own grandchildren, as he was present for each of their births, watched them grow up and attended all of their special functions. Bill is further survived by three sisters, Lennea Darrin of Brookville, Jeanne McGowan of Renovo, Sue Parks of Williamsport, a brother Roy Darrin and his wife Melanie of Brookville, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Tonzo, and three brother-in-laws Rocco Tonzo, James McGowan and Jim Parks.
A service to celebrate the life of Bill will be held at a future date which will be announced.
