YMCA Gymnasts Compete at League Championships
HUNTINGDON – Members of the Lock Haven Branch YMCA competed Sunday February 16 at the A.M.G.L Championships held at Huntingdon Area High School. The theme for the day was “A Night on the Blue Carpet” as gymnasts dressed red carpet style for their walk-in to the gymnasium for introductions prior to the start of the meet.
In the A Team 15 and Over Division Harleigh Andrews placed fifth on vault (8.45) and sixth on floor (7.95) with a 30.575 All Around Score. Andrews was also awarded a Judges Recognition Certificate for being a team leader.
In the B Team 11-12 Division Delilah Hefferon placed first on bars (7.05) and floor (7.95), second on vault (8.3) and third in the All Around (30.175). Mya Redmond placed seventh on floor (7.125) and eighth on vault (7.775) and the All Around (26.525).
In the B Team 10 and Under Division Harper Conklin placed first on vault (8.175) and second on bars (5.825) and All Around (28.275). Summer Biggans placed first on bars (5.85), seventh on vault (7.75) and eighth in the All Around (26.85). Evelyn Nestor placed third on vault (8.05), seventh on floor (6.9) and scored a 25.4 in the All Around. Grace Grieco placed sixth on vault (7.8) with a 24.25 All Around. Grace was also recognized with a Judge’s Certificate for having a Great Attitude on Bars. Madison Larson scored a 7.2 on vault and 6.5 on floor. Leah Wian did not compete due to injury.
The team is hosting a Meet and Greet on Saturday, February 29th at the Lock Haven Branch YMCA from 2-4. The team is looking for new team members. Parents, coaches and gymnasts will be on hand to answer questions and talk about what it is like to be a part of this team. Flyers and sign-up information will be available during the event. For members of the YMCA, the event is free. Non-members will pay the day-pass fee of $5.00. Get to the gym early (stop at the desk for non-members before heading up to the gym) to sign in and get hands-on with all four pieces of equipment.
