CM, Mifflinburg Play Dead Even in 0-0 Tie
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain boys’ soccer team was eager for a win tonight over visiting PHAC foe, Mifflinburg to aid in their goal of making the District 6 playoffs but they Wildcats had to settle for a draw as the game ended 0-0 after 80 minutes of regulation play and two overtime periods.
The Wildcats, who picked up a 4-1 win in their first cycle meeting at Mifflinburg, pressured the guests throughout holding a 17-8 edge in shots on goal and held nearly even on corner kicks 7-6.
Central Mountain had their opportunities to get the job dune but came up short on completion. Trey Gentzel led the CM attack with 6 shots on goal followed by Jeremiah Thomas and Chase Young with 4 shots each. Alec Leuthold had 2 shots and Nate Brinker had 1 shot on the night.
Fortunately it was an relatively uneventful night for the CM defense and keeper, Greg Walizer who snared 3 saves for the ‘Cats while turning Mifflinburg away empty handed.
With the tie, Central Mountain comes in at 5-7-1 overall, 4-4-1 in conference play.
Central Mountain will next travel to Selinsgrove on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 for another PHAC contest.
