LHU Women’s Soccer Coach, Kathy Brown Announces Resignation

This past season (2018), the Bald Eagles enjoyed a remarkable run.
Lock Haven finished the 2018 season at 11-5-1 after advancing to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament for the first time in 12 years and the 11 wins on the season marked the most for the Bald Eagles since 2004. Standout Marah Foltz earned All-American honors after being named the Player of the Year in the region and conference. In all, LHU crowned four All-Conference players in 2018, the most since 2007.
“Please accept my heartfelt thank you for the opportunity to become a part of the LHU family. My time in The Haven has been filled with experiences that will forever bring a smile to my face,” Brown said. “The players, staff, administration, alumnae and local community have shown nothing, but energy and excitement as we worked tirelessly to grow the program in all areas. I value all the lessons I have learned and the wonderful people I have met. I am very proud of the soccer programs achievements, both on and off the field.”
“All who know me well, know my family is everything to me,” Brown added. “When my husband was given a college coaching opportunity in an area closer to our aging parents, we made the difficult decision to accept. We made the best decision for our entire family.
Brown went on to say, “Being the head women’s soccer coach at LHU has always meant more to me than just a job. The LHU women’s soccer program is extended family to me and I will miss them more than words will ever show. I wish nothing, but the best for all involved. The team is talented, the recruiting class is fantastic and the alumnae are excited. I know they will continue to do great things. I am forever grateful for my time in The Haven and I look forward to watching the program continue to excel.”
LHU Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Gioglio is appreciative of Brown’s efforts and stated, “Kathy has been an exemplary head coach during her time at LHU. Since her arrival, Kathy has built relationships with the alumnae, area coaches and the Lock Haven community, while establishing a formula for success. On behalf of the athletic department, we wish Kathy and her family the very best.”
Brown was hired at LHU in April 2016 and brought with her college national-championship experience as both a player and coach.
Prior to LHU, Brown spent 18 seasons, on the sidelines at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia, as the head coach, after starting the program there. Highlighting her tenure at Young Harris College was a 2006 Junior College Division I National Championship and she was elected into the Mountain Cats Hall of Fame in 2013. Seven times she was named the Region Coach of the Year while at Young Harris and Brown was tabbed as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College Division I National Coach of the Year in 2006.
