Griffins No Match for Lady Bucks
FARWELL- 13-0 and counting, that’s the record in this record-breaking season for the Bucktail softball team.
Coach Mike Poorman’s team used some timely hitting and another dominating pitching performance from Emma Poorman to defeat visiting Sullivan County by a 12-2 score Thursday, the game ending after six innings on the 10-run rule.
The Griffins put up single runs in the top of both the first and second innings, but the Lady Bucks never flinched, scoring in every inning, including three in the bottom of the second and four more in the bottom of the third to break things open.
Bucktail was held to a season-low six base hits, but three of them were doubles, from Jordan Burrows, Myka Poorman and Emily Cross. In fact those three Lady Bucks, one-two-three in the batting order, had all six hits, three for Poorman, two for Burrows and one for Cross who drove in four runs. Burrows and Poorman each had one RBI and Burrows scored three times. The Lady Bucks were helped by three Griffin errors and nine walks.
Emma Poorman was again masterful in the circle, pitching a complete game, giving up three singles; she struck out five and walked three, throwing 88 pitches, 55 for strikes.
13-0 after the win over Sullivan County, Bucktail actually moves to 14-0 as officials have announced that St. John Neumann (2-5) is forfeiting tomorrow’s scheduled game in Williamsport.
Next major test should come next Monday, May 6, home with Montgomery. The Raiders are in second place in the Mid-Penn with an 8-1 mark, 9-2 overall. Montgomery’s lone conference loss came earlier this season, by a 19-2 score to Bucktail. A Lady Buck win would all but wrap up the Mid-Penn crown for this year.
