Lady Bucks Now 7-0; Bop CMVT, 11-5

FARWELL – For the first time this season, the Bucktail softball team had to go the full seven innings, but no problem, the Lady Bucks had another offensive outpouring on the way to an 11-5 win over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech on Tuesday.

Off since last Thursday, head coach Mike Poorman acknowledged his team was more sloppy than usual but again hit the ball well. How well? Bucktail tacked on another 11 runs, giving the team 104 on the season, averaging just less than 15 runs a game in starting out 7-0.

Bucktail was off and running in the bottom of the first, plating five runs as the first seven batters knocked out base hits. Key blows were a 2-run double from Myka Poorman, an RBI single from Emma Poorman and an RBI single from Kayli Casper. Emily Cross doubled to start inning number two and she was tripled in by Emma Poorman, the score 6-0 Bucktail after two.

The Lady Rams, now 4-6, took advantage of some opportunities in the top of the third, scoring four runs, off four walks, an error and a double to score four runs and make it a 6-4 Lady Buck lead.

Bucktail stretched out the lead with four more in the fourth; Cross starting things with a walk, Myka Poorman with a run-scoring triple, Myka scoring on a sacrifice fly from sister, Emma. Bucktail added two more, utilizing an error, a walk and an RBI single from Sara Kepler. The final run came in the fifth, Cross with a one-out triple and scoring on a ground-out from Myka Poorman.

Cross led the Lady Buck hit parade with three, just missing the cycle with a single, double and triple to go along with a walk in four trips to the plate, scoring four runs. In with two hits each were the Poormans, Tessa Cowfer and Kepler. Casper and Jordan Burrows both had a single.

The Poorman sisters shared mound duties, Emma pitching into the fourth, Myka finishing up. Of CMVT’s five runs, only two were earned. The two Lady Bucks combined for nine strikeouts,

Coach Poorman said he did not think Bucktail’s 7-0 start has brought on any extra pressure. He said his team “had too many lapses with a couple defensive miscues” but overall the pitching was good.

Things will stay busy for Bucktail: home Wednesday with Muncy (4-3; 4-1 in the Mid-Penn), home Thursday with Millville (2-6; 2-5) and home Tuesday, April 23 with Montgomery (3-2; 3-1).
