Wildcat Boys’ Soccer Beat the Heat and Shik, 4-2

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It took three attempts for the Wildcat boys’ soccer team to earn their first win of the 2018 season with a 4-2 victory over Shikellamy and the first-ever varsity win for their new head coach, Billy Hook.

“That is win No. 1 and we’ll take it,” Hook shared after the game, “Tonight we were able to finish. We played with the same intensity on Saturday, tonight we could finally get the ball in the net and the confidence built from there,” Hook explained.

The first score of the game came at just under 17 minutes of play when senior, Steven Giordano came off the bench and took a corner pass from Tommy Pringle and found the back of the net to put the ‘Cats up 1-0.

Shikellamy only needed 3 more minutes of play to even the score when they took advantage of a CM foul in the box and converted a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1.

Central Mountain took the lead once more with 3:45 remaining in the first period when Brayden Brungard took a pass from Giordano for the score and a 2-1 Wildcat lead at the break.

Once more, Shik only needed about 3 minutes playing time to take advantage of a CM foul and put the ball in play and tie the score once more for a 2-2 tie early in the second period.

“We need to clean up our defense and do a better job back there and we’ll be alright,” Hook observed of the opportunities his squad present Shik.

Then after a twenty minute delay for an injury time out when CM’s Alec Leuthold had to be removed from the field on a stretcher and transferred by ambulance for a severe leg injury.

When play resumed, the Wildcats stepped up their game with Jensen Brown scoring on a PK with a little over 9 minutes remaining. Then Chase Young scored the last goal of the game with 3:24 left on the clock for the 4-2 victory.

With the win Central Mountain moves to 1-2 on the season, 1-0 in PHAC play.

Next up for the Wildcats is a road trip to Danville on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018.
